Renault Sport has confirmed that Polish driver Robert Kubica is to take part in a test with the Renault Formula One team in Barcelona in December.

The test drive comes as a reward for winning the 2005 World Series by Renault championship, with the 20-year-old Epsilon Euskadi driver wrapping up the title in the penultimate meeting of the year after taking 4 victories and eleven pole positions.

Joining Kubica for the test at Catalunya will be the winner of the 2004 Eurocup Formula Renault V6 title Giorgio Mondini.

"This is a very important opportunity for me," Kubica said. "It will be my first drive in a Formula One car and I hope it will be not the last! Of course this test comes as a prize for my title in the World Series by Renault, but I will be focusing on completing as many laps as possible."

Head of Competition and Communications for Renault Sport Jean Paul Mari added that Kubica's performances during 2005 had marked him out a true contender for a seat in F1.

"Never before has a Polish driver reached quite such a high level in motorsport," he said. "Robert Kubica has showed impeccable consistency throughout the season and is already a legitimate contender for a Formula One drive."
