A Mercedes team minibus was robbed at gunpoint while leaving Autódromo José Carlos Pace on Friday night, with members of the Formula 1 team on-board losing valuables but suffering injuries.

The team minibus was leaving the circuit after Friday's practice running for the Brazilian Grand Prix, taking team members and staff back from the Interlagos circuit.

Mercedes confirmed this morning that the attack had happened and was at gunpoint, with robbers taking valuables but not leaving team members with any injuries.

"Following a number of enquiries, we can confirm that a team minibus was robbed at gunpoint last night leaving the circuit. Valuables were stolen but most importantly everybody is safe and uninjured," the statement reads.
