Alonso handed first extended McLaren F1 run in testing

Fernando Alonso will enjoy the first extended run in the new Renault-powered McLaren MCL33 on Monday at the start of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Barcelona.

Two-time F1 world champion Alonso got his first taste of the new car earlier this week during a shakedown, completing 10 laps before handing over to teammate Stoffel Vandoorne, and was pleased with the maiden run-out, telling fans "good times are coming" after a difficult period for McLaren.

McLaren confirmed via Twitter on Sunday that Alonso would be piloting the MCL33 car for Monday's running in Barcelona, with Vandoorne slated to take over on Tuesday.

Alonso will then return to the cockpit for Wednesday's running before Vandoorne closes out the opening test on Thursday.
