Formula 1 is back as the 2021 season kicks off in Bahrain this weekend.

Teams head into the first on the back of just three days of testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.

It’s the first time since 2010 that Bahrain hosts the first race of a season after Australia was rescheduled due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Following pre-season testing, Red Bull looks the team to beat going into the first race. Mercedes appears to be on the back foot having struggled for reliability, completing the fewest laps of any team across the three days of testing.

Lewis Hamilton has won the last two races in Bahrain, while Red Bull hasn’t won in the desert since 2013.

F1’s main feeder series - Formula 2 - also gets underway this weekend.

When is the Bahrain Grand Prix?

The 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix takes place on Sunday, March 28. Cars will take to the track on Friday for FP1 and FP2, with FP3 and qualifying taking place on the Saturday.

Where is the Bahrain Grand Prix taking place?

This year’s Bahrain Grand Prix will take place on the traditional grand prix circuit, rather than the outer circuit used for the Sakhir Grand Prix in 2020.

The circuit is 5.412km long and has 15 turns, with the race distance set to 57 laps.
