The Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Formula E squad is revelling in its first teams' title triumph, having pulled off an “incredible” comeback to be crowned 2017/2018 champions.

Four podium finishes across the season-ending double-header in New York ensured Audi pipped rivals Techeetah to the teams’ championship crown by just two points.

The feat reflected a remarkable turnaround by the German squad which had spent much of the first half of the ’17/18 campaign languishing toward the bottom of the teams’ standings after making just two top 10 appearances from the opening three rounds.

“We had a big goal and we achieved it. What a comeback – I’m happy and delighted for the entire team,” said Daniel Abt, who added a double podium in New York to his pair of victories in Mexico and his home event in Berlin to seal fifth place in the championship - marking his best result in the series yet.

“What an incredible finish to the season with four podiums this weekend. We’re the teams' champions and we managed to achieve what we hadn’t before,” he added.

“Everyone can be super proud of the job they’ve been doing all season long. I’m just thankful and very, very happy. Now it’s time to get a break and we’ll bounce back in season five - what a big task ahead!”

Teammate Lucas di Grassi, who won the opening New York race and took second in the finale to round out the season in runner-up spot behind drivers’ champion Jean-Eric Vergne, praised his team’s hard work in its recovery to winning the title.

“Those guys back in the garage, everyone works really hard,” the Brazilian said. “Every time we say the same but I'm very proud that Audi committed to Formula E, suffering a lot, keeping their head high, recovering and in the last race winning by two points is just unbelievable.”

Audi team principal Allan McNish added: “We were biting our nails all the way to the last corner and the final second of the race, but now it’s reality: teams’ Champions!

“This season was up and down, and they always did their best. Also, today when a push came to a shove, they delivered the goods. A big thank you also goes to our base camp in Germany. Great job.”
