Valentino Rossi has stormed to the top of the times in FP3 thanks to a late flying lap to edge out Danilo Petrucci as the pace sharpened ahead of qualifying at Brno.

The Movistar Yamaha rider bolted to the fastest time with a 1m 55.175s on his final lap of the session, aided by a tow on to the start/finish straight, to push Pramac Ducati’s Petrucci into second place by just 0.086s.

With the top 10 on the combined times after FP3 deciding which riders automatically progress into Q2, the MotoGP grid targeted late fast laps which saw the top order chop and change until the chequered flag.

Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo claimed third place in the session, having trialled the new aerodynamic fairing that was debuted by Petrucci yesterday, with MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez grabbing fourth place for Repsol Honda.

Aleix Espargaro has maintained his impressive recovery from injury sustained in Germany last month with 12th place on the Aprilia to edge ahead of Jack Miller (Pramac Ducati) and Alvaro Bautista (Angel Nieto Ducati).
