Maverick Vinales is convinced he can wrap-up third in the 2019 MotoGP standings in perfect style, with a victory in front of his home Spanish fans at the Valencia finale this weekend.

The Monster Yamaha star returns to Europe inspired by a dominant second victory of the season last time out at Sepang, which has further persuaded Vinales that 'the hard work is paying off' and they have 'found the formula'.

Vinales heads into the season finale with a seven-point advantage over countryman and fellow double 2019 race winner Alex Rins (Suzuki).

“I‘m very happy to head back to Valencia, feeling in such good physical shape and with a positive mentality after the victory in Malaysia," Vinales said.

"We are working very well with the team, and all the hard work done throughout the season is now paying off. We have found the formula to continue developing the bike for 2020 and that is what we are doing.

"My goal for this weekend is finishing the season with another victory or at least with another podium, in order to be the first Yamaha in the championship standings and to achieve the third position in the general classification.

"I can't wait to start working on next year. I think that this GP we will be a strong contender, and we‘ll fight for the victory from the beginning of the weekend. I really want to be able to show that we are ready to fight for the victory.”

Vinales and team-mate Valentino Rossi will try the latest version of the 2020 M1 during next week's Valencia test.
