Wimbledon storm to top of the pile.

The GMB Dons stormed to the top of the Conference League with a comprehensive defeat of ex-champions Sheffield Prowlers at Plough Lane last night [55 - 35].

Wimbledon completely dominated proceedings from the outset, showing greater sharpness from the start and bold overtaking to clinch victory with five heats remaining.

Danny Giffard continues to impress as he surged to an immaculate 15 point maximum and he was well supported by GMB Dons No.1 Wayne Barrett with 14 and Gavin Hedge who notched up 13 hard earned points.

In truth, Sheffield were a shade disappointing and relied upon Richard Hall with 13 points and to a lesser extent Ben Wilson who scored 7, however this may have been due to the fact that this was their first outing of the season.

15 year old visitor Jamie Rogers deserved more for his efforts and fell three times when well placed, but still displayed the pace and aggression to suggest that he is a big talent for the future.

This was arguably the best performance by the London side since their return to the sport last year after an eleven year absence, and augurs well for a good season.

Scorers:

GMB Dons Danny Giffard 15, Wayne Barrett 14, Gavin Hedge 13, Peter Collyer 7, Chris Hunt 4, Andre Cross 2.

Sheffield: Richard Hall 13, Ben Wilson 7, Benji Compton 7, Jamie Rogers 6, Luke Priest
2, Michael Mitchell 1, David Speight 0
