Newcastle will hand a debut to Dane Kristian Lund in Monday's British League Cup clash with Glasgow at Brough Park. He replaces fellow countryman Rune Knudsen who made a nightmare start to his British career.

Team manager Dave Rowland said: "We hope Kristian can come in to the side and make a worthwhile contribution which we were not getting from Rune who has suffered a drain on confidence."

The Diamonds have something of a tradition of unearthing Danish speedway talent - Nicki Pedersen, Bjarne Pedersen and Kenneth Bjrerre being prime examples - but Knudsen has a way to go to live up to that sort of company.
