Jurgen van den Goorbergh rode to an impressive second place at Silverstone, an excellent performance on his first visit to the fast English circuit.

Jurgen started well but clashed fairings with eventual winner Chris Vermeulen on the opening lap, breaking his concentration momentarily.

Unable to keep quite the pace of the leader, van den Goorbergh was involved in a close battle with Karl Muggeridge's Honda. The Dutchman allowed his rival past for a time, before pushing on to secure second by over two seconds as the riders behind started to close in on the podium positions.

A magnificent ride from rookie rider Thierry van den Bosch delivered the World Supermoto champion fourth place and his first ever World Supersport points. Alessio Corradi had a sliding ride to fifth, just over a second down on Van den Bosch. Van den Bosch's team-mate, Matthieu Lagrive, had the best result of his career, finishing ninth at a circuit which alternates between ultra fast and almost walking pace.

Christian Kellner overcame a lowly start to finish a battling 11th, but his team-mate J?rg Teuchert retired on lap 17. Simone Sanna experienced brake problems and pulled in on lap three. In the championship table, Van den Goorbergh has moved into second place.

His total of 84 is eight points clear of Katsuaki Fujiwara but 47 down on Vermeulen. Kellner's 11th maintains his fifth position on 59 points.

"I got a good start and tried to I was looking to lead from the front," said van den Goorbergh afterwards. "But Chris (Vermeulen) had a slide when he came alongside me and that was pretty scary. The plan was to stay with Chris and pull away but he was just too fast today and I couldn't stay with him. For sure I wanted to win here today, especially after setting pole position, but I am not unhappy with the result."

Thierry van den Bosch was pleased with his result. "I am surprised with the result," he said. So far this season my injury has stopped me riding as I would like and to finish fourth is very good. Since the first practice I have had a good feeling, we have started to fix our problems and now I am feeling confident on the bike. I tried to ride my own rhythm and was fast in the beginning of the race, I tried not to make a mistake and make my own race and finally I finished fourth, which is fantastic for the team."

Alessio Corradi came home in fifth. "The race was good but I selected the wrong rear tyre, which was too soft. After seven laps I was just spinning and it was not possible for me to push any harder. At the start of the race I tried to follow Vermeulen, but it was not possible for me to stay with him.if I tried I would have crashed!"

Matthieu Lagrive was happy with his ninth place. "I am really happy for the team and myself because we have all worked really hard. This weekend we tried some new settings for the chassis and, although it was not a big improvement, it did enable me to finish ninth. We have been running top ten all weekend and that shows how much better we are than the results in the first races."

Eleventh was hard fought for Christian Kellner. "That was another hard race. I had a difficult practice and was getting better and better throughout the weekend. The bike is fast and my tyres are working well, but I think the problem is that this is not my type of racetrack; I prefer tighter tracks with second or third gear corners. We'll check the data and see what we can do to go quicker at the next fast circuit."

For J?rg Teuchert it was a case of a blown engine. "Two laps from the end my engine stopped. I don't know what happened. It was not such a good race for me before that but it was a really bad way to finish."

Another not to finish was Simone Sanna. "My front brake had absolutely no play on it, and felt very stiff, so I had to come in to the pits. It's very disappointing for us all after showing so well in qualifying."
