Loris Baz has claimed top spot in an interrupted warm up session at Phillip Island following a red flag stoppage due to multiple early offs.

Initially Eugene Laverty was reported to have fallen on his first flying lap for BMW in the 15-minute session, before both Pedercini Kawasaki’s Sandro Cortese and GRT Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff suffered offs moments later which triggered a red flag stoppage.

World Superbike officials have announced Gerloff has been taken to the Phillip Island medical centre for a full check-up ahead of the Sprint Race. Following an assessment by the medical team, Gerloff has been ruled out of action due to concussion.

With the session resuming after almost 10 minutes, Baz produced a 1m 30.470s to take top spot ahead of Race 1 rostrum duo Alex Lowes on the factory Kawasaki and Scott Redding on the Aruba.it Racing Ducati.

Leon Haslam slotted into fourth place on the new Honda as Race 1 winner Toprak Razgatlioglu rounded out the top five on the Pata Yamaha.

Tom Sykes claimed sixth place for BMW ahead of Alvaro Bautista on the Honda, with Jonathan Rea taking eighth place in warm up as the defending World Superbike champion looks to bounce back from his Race 1 off for Kawasaki.

Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha) and Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing Ducati) rounded out the top 10 ahead of Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team GoEleven Ducati), Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha) and Xavi Fores (Puccetti Kawasaki).

Barni Ducati’s Leon Camier will miss the rest of the 2020 World Superbike opening round due to his ongoing shoulder injury.
