Spanish season finale on WorldSBK calendar update

The ongoing coronavirus disruptions have caused the Spanish round of the 2020 World Superbike championship to be postponed from March 29 to October 25, where it is now set to become the season finale.

However, there are continued rumours that the Qatar event, postponed from mid-March but without any alternative date at present, could yet return at the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the French round at Magny-Cours has been pushed back a week from September 27 to October 4 "to avoid clashes with [the] newly published MotoGP calendar (10th March), in order to maximise the coverage of the event."

September 27 would have meant a clash with the Aragon MotoGP, while October 4 is the weekend of the Thai round at Buriram. A further MotoGP calendar update was announced today (March 11) but the dates of both those events remain unchanged.

'With ongoing external factors of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the following changes have been made to the 2020 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship calendar', read a WorldSBK statement.

Rescheduled:
• Pirelli Spanish Round (previously 27th – 29th March) rescheduled for 23rd – 25th October.
• Pirelli French Round* (previously 25th – 27th September) rescheduled 2nd – 4th October.

'The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization are working extensively with Circuits and Government Officials following up the situation in each country and will inform accordingly in due course if there are further changes to the 2020 Calendar.

'Further updates to follow soon.'
