2021 World Superbike calendar updated as Circuito de Navarra is introduced

The 2021 provisional World Superbike calendar has undergone further changes as MotorLand Aragon will now host the season opener, after Estoril is postponed due to local restrictions in Portugal.

The change sees the Circuito de Navarra make its debut on the WorldSBK calendar and will be the fifth event of the year.

The Navarra race weekend is scheduled for August 20-22, while the season will now begin on May 21-23. The addition of Navarra means a total of four race weekends in Spain.

Teams and riders will have a further two weeks to wait before the opening race, as the Estoril round was originally due to start on May the 7th.

The 2021 season is expected to be a thrilling one with current champion Jonathan Rea looking for his seventh title on the bounce, and 100th win the series.

Looking to stop him in his second season with Ducati will be Scott Redding, while other championship contenders Toprak Razgatlioglu and Alex Lowes can't be discounted either.

Several teams have already begun private testing with more to follow this month, ahead of the World Superbike official test at Barcelona in April.

With the current restrictions ever changing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is unclear whether the calendar will undergo any further change.

As of right now, round twelve in Australia is without a date, while round eleven is planned for Indonesia which marks its return to the WorldSBK calendar for the first time since 1997. Below is the revised calendar in full detail.
