Andrea Antonelli has been laid to rest in his home town of Castiglione del Lago, less than a week after the accident that tragically claimed his life.

More than 5,000 people travelled to the small town to bid their final farewell to the late 25-year-old, including Marco Melandri, Michel Fabrizio, Alex Polita, Lorenzo Zanetti, Massimo Roccoli, Luca Scassa, Raffaele De Rosa, Pierfranceso Chili and Fabrizio Pirovano.

Andrea was killed in an accident on the opening lap of a wet World Supersport race around the Moscow Raceway, the Italian falling from his GoEleven Kawasaki before being struck by the unsighted Zanetti moments later.

His death is the first to occur in the World Superbike or Supersport Championship since Craig Jones succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident at Brands Hatch in 2008.
