Josh Brookes has maintained his control at Oulton Park by topping FP2 by over half a second from Danny Buchan as the Bennetts British Superbike championship showdown contenders surge to the sharp-end.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider produced a 1m 34.075s to go under the Oulton Park lap record and keep clear of his BSB rivals. The Australian rider secured a double victory back in May during the first visit to the Cheshire track and will look to emulate that feat to pick up the final Podium Points at this weekend’s triple-header ahead of the BSB Showdown.

Buchan remains the closest contender to Brookes on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki, ending FP2 0.508s back, as he looks to secure his BSB Showdown spot.

Both Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Racing Ducati) and Scott Redding (Be Wiser Ducati) have already booked their Showdown places and completed FP2 in third and fourth respectively as Christian Iddon, another rider in Showdown contention, rounded out the top five for Tyco BMW.

Glenn Irwin claimed sixth place for Tyco BMW ahead of Buildbase Suzuki’s Bradley Ray and Santander Salt Yamaha’s Dan Linfoot to act as potential BSB Showdown spoilers ahead of top-six fighters Peter Hickman (Smiths Racing BMW) and Andrew Irwin (Honda) who completed the top 10.

The final two BSB Showdown contenders Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) and Xavi Fores (Honda) endured a low-key Friday practice in 15th and 18th respectively.

FP2 was stalled by two separate red flags with the first one triggered by an incident involving Hector Barbera and Luke Stapleford which saw the Spanish rider taken to the medical centre.

The second red flag stoppage was to allow Billy McConnell to be take to the medical centre after crashing at Britten’s chicane. The Australian rider is standing in for Josh Elliott at OMG Racing Suzuki with the Brit struck down by food poisoning.
