The first BSB qualifying session of 2026 saw Kyle Ryde maintain his control of the opening 2026 BSB round at Oulton Park, with pole position.

The reigning champion, who took back to back championship wins with the 2025 title, had finished the opening day fastest, setting a new lap record.

Skipping the earlier short FP3 session, along with Max Cook, Joe Talbot and Leon Haslam, Q2 marked the first time on track on Sunday for Ryde.

Immediately up to speed the Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions rider was as fast on a Ducati again after the team made the switch from Yamaha, always in the mix for the lead time, and taking pole honours back from rival Bradley Ray with a best in the session of 1m 33.001s.

Ray, now in McAMS sponsorship livery at Yamaha, had previously hit the top of the standings chasing down a marker ahead in the shape of Rory Skinner, but that lap was only good enough for second, just 0.127s slower.

Ray and Haslam won the two races that took place at the May meeting at Oulton Park last season, and they will both again be in contention for victory as the Moto Rapido Ducati became the last rider to improve after several runs disrupted by traffic, taking the final spot on the front row - but over half a second from the pole time.

The late effort from Haslam pushed Max Cook back a space, denying bimota a front row in their first BSB qualifying sessions, with Cook fourth on his best lap, set solo after leading around team-mate Joe Talbot at the start of Q2.

Storm Stacey was another late improver, crossing the line just before Haslam to leap up from eleventh to fifth for Bathams AJN Ducati.

Scott Redding survived an out of his seat moment on the Hager PBM Ducati on his way to sixth, just ahead of Talbot, who converted his best rookie performance to move through Q1 to a seventh placed start as the number 19 begins his first full BSB season positively.

Ryan Vickers on his return to the championship with Honda Racing UK in ninth and DAO Racing’s Lee Jackson complete the top 10 on the grid.

After moving through Q1 with the top time, Josh Brookes (15th) finished his session in the pits, over two seconds from the lead lap time for DAO Racing.

Q1 No progress for Glenn Irwin after crash

Brookes left it late to move to the top of the timesheets to progress to Q2 with the top time.

thea number 25 was joined by fellow Australian Jason O’Halloran (11th in Q2)  and Talbot in progressing to the second session.

That O’Halloran lap shuffled back long term session Leader Ilya Mikhalchik to fourth, just missing out, so the Ukrainian will start 16th.

It was another session to forget for Glenn Irwin.

As O’Halloran went through for a pass, Irwin had put his leg out to indicate his direction, but ended up running through the grass and the turns at Brittens, ending in a fall - with his team-mate leading race one away. Mikhalchik took evasive action avoiding the falling Northern Irishman, to continue his session.

That was the second crash in Q1.

The start of the session only lasted five minutes before the red flag was brought out to repair the crash barrier at Island after a crash for Connor Thomson, who was taken to the medical centre after his NP Racing Honda cartwheeled at speed off track and later declared fit for race one, joining Irwin at the back of the grid.
