British girl racer Fiona Leggate has this week tested Yvan Muller's 2004 BTCC Vauxhall Astra with Triple Eight and VX Racing Jr team Techspeed, and she's eyeing up an entry in the series from the Oulton Park round.

Leggate, who has raced in the MG XPower Trophy and the EERC Britcar Series, tested Muller's 2004 Astra at Donington Park under the watchful eye of former VX Racing works driver Paul O'Neill.

The test went to plan, though there were reportedly a few minor problems with the gearbox, and traffic meant for not many clear laps for Leggate to get to terms with the Astra.

"I didn't have any problems getting used to the car, the team were really good with me," said Leggate after the test. "I have always wanted to race in the British Touring Cars as it the top motor racing event in the UK. Paul O'Neill came and he went through the details of the car with me which really helped".

Watching on, Paul O'Neill was impressed with what he saw. "Fiona did a good for her first time in the car," he said afterwards.

Leggate has shared an MG ZR in the Britcar endurance series with the likes of O'Neill, BTCC ace Anthony Reid, British F1 pundit Tony Jardine and V8 Supercar driver Jamie Cartwright.

According to an official statement, joining the BTCC later in the year is defintely on the cards. "After a lot more testing, Fiona will be set to join the British Touring Cars, possibly at Oulton Park," it says.

"I'm really happy," Fiona told Crash.net. "I've got a lot of hard work to put in, but I'm definitely looking forward to the challenge."
