Jackson wins action packed finale

Mat Jackson took victory in the final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend to give Airwaves Racing a first win with its new Ford Focus.

Despite starting tenth, Jackson avoided chaos on the opening lap to come through the field to lie second by the end of the opening lap and then battled ahead of Alex MacDowall into a lead he would retain to the finish.

Andrew Jordan and James Nash rounded out the podium in their Vauxhall's with Nash moving into the championship lead as a result after the second meeting of the year, with MacDowall being shuffled down to fourth as he was unable to live with the NGTC-engined cars for pace.

Jeff Smith was fifth after an entertaining race where he diced for position with Matt Neal and ran off track on more than one occasion while Jason Plato battled through from the back of the field to finish in sixth after stunning work from the Chevrolet team to repair his damaged car after his accident in race two.

Neal settled for seventh place ahead of Paul O'Neill, with Liam Griffin and NicK Foster rounding out the points scorers - the latter latter two scoring for the first time.

The race was marred by a number of incidents, with Dave Newsham and Tony Hughes colliding at the start after Newsham tried to go down the grass and went into a spin - which then saw him collect Hughes as he tried to avoid the BMW. Tom Onslow-Cole meanwhile had briefly edged the AmD Milltek Racing VW into the lead off the line but his race ended in the gravel at the Old Hairpin when Nash and Jackson touched and then Nash tagged Tom Chilton's Ford - which collect TOC on its way to the gravel.

Andy Neate and Tony Gilham meanwhile retired after a collision on the final lap at Schwantz curve.
