The Red Bull driver will celebrate the inaugural race to be held in Miami by using a brand new helmet design incorporating “a bit of Miami vice flavour”.

In a move away from his traditional, predominantly white helmet, Verstappen’s new design features navy and light blue colours, as well as pink accents.

Verstappen unveiled his special helmet in a video shared on Red Bull’s social media channels on Tuesday.

“A special one, for a special weekend - as you can see, it’s for Miami,” said Verstappen.

“It’s the first time we go there so I’m really excited to be there and I thought why not add a bit of Miami vice flavour to it.

“I really like this one, I think it is one of my favourite ones [helmet designs]. I’m definitely looking forward to using this one.”

Verstappen heads to the United States having cut his deficit to championship leader Charles Leclerc to 27 points.

The Dutchman scored maximum points last time out in Imola, while Ferrari’s Leclerc made his first real blunder of the season by spinning out of a sure-fire third place in the closing stages.

Leclerc went on to recover to sixth but has seen his once 46-point advantage over Verstappen almost half in the space of one weekend.
