Mansell Astounds Critics.

Nigel Mansell returned for the first time in four years to top class competitive motorsport today at the Donington Park British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) event which held rounds 11 & 12 of the 1998 BTCC.

Mansell proved he had lost none of his fighting spirit and abundant natural ability for car control despite meeting head on with the barrier in the first event.

The 1992 F1 World Champion had qualified an incredulous 3rd on the grid for round 11 of the BTCC, he rose to the occasion in the One Shot Showdown qualifying which has become a part of the 1998 Championship and pipped many regular BTCC rivals to the second row of the grid.

He was to start the 11th round from 3rd on the grid and the 12th round from 19th on the grid, while conditions were deteriorating throughout the day.
