Ferrari announces new sponsor.

It may have lot FedEx to Williams, but Ferrari still manages to attract new backers into Formula One with the announcement that it will carry the logos of IT company AMD this season.

The Italian team revealed the deal just hours before its new car - provisionally dubbed the F2002 - was due to launch in Maranello. The AMD sponsorship is the second major agreement tied up by the company in recent months, following the arrival of Vodafone as a major backer for the 2002 campaign.

The Italian team revealed the deal just hours before its new car - provisionally dubbed the F2002 - was due to launch in Maranello. The AMD sponsorship is the second major agreement tied up by the company in recent months, following the arrival of Vodafone as a major backer for the 2002 campaign.

The deal is contracted for the 2002 and 2003 seasons at least, and will see the computer processor giant supply IT back-up to the team, in terms of telemetry and electonics, as well as sponsorship.
