Racing Point, McLaren, Renault or Ferrari - who will win F1’s fight for P3?

Despite both Formula 1 world titles being wrapped up thanks to Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s domination, there is still all to play for in the intense four-squad fight for third spot in the constructors’ championship.

All eyes will be on the incredibly close battle to secure a place inside F1’s ‘big three’ teams in the final run-in to close out a bizarre and unprecedented 2020 season.

The titanic tussle between Racing Point, McLaren, Renault and Ferrari will be settled in the upcoming triple-header in the Middle East, with two races in quick succession in Bahrain rounded out by the traditional Abu Dhabi finale.

But who will land the most coveted prize remaining up for grabs in F1 this year?

Racing Point currently holds the sought-after position of P3 but things are exceptionally tight, with McLaren bearing down its nearest rivals’ necks sitting just five points behind.

A strong second half of the season - including two podiums across the past four events - has rocketed Renault right into contention, though a disappointing Turkish Grand Prix meant the French manufacturer fell 24 points adrift of Racing Point.

Meanwhile, recent improvements following a raft of upgrades have brought Ferrari into the mix.

The Scuderia recorded its best result of 2020 in Turkey with a 27-point haul that has put it within touching distance of returning to its usual position inside the top three teams, an achievement which would save some face in what has otherwise been a woeful year for F1’s most famous squad.

Racing Point looks to have the edge on paper given that appears to boast the fastest outright package of the four teams, but with performance levels close, and the pendulum of momentum and fortune swinging back and forth on a weekend-by-weekend basis, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will come out on top.
