Gene: I thought I was a goner.

Marc Gene has admitted that he felt he could be about to die during his high-speed accident during testing to the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Marc Gene has admitted that he felt he could be about to die during his high-speed accident during testing to the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Gene was at the wheel of the #7 Peugeot 908 he will share with Nicolas Minassian and Jacques Villeneuve during the afternoon part of the session when he lost control of the diesel-powered car at the Porsche Curves.

The car got airborne before slamming into the wall on the outside of the circuit, with the Spaniard lucky to escape with only a fractured toe.

The car itself however wasn't so lucky and the team will now have to work hard to build a new car ahead of qualifying and the race itself next week.

"I thought I was not going to be alive after the accident," Gene said. "At that speed I completely lost the control of the car and I saw that something really horrible was going to happen. Being unharmed is a miracle. I only want to say thank you to Peugeot for this reliable and strong car that has saved my life.

"At this moment I only want to get better and be ready for the race. We have to build a new car, but I am pretty sure that Peugeot would be able to make it."
