Pedrosa's collarbone plated in Barcelona

Dani Pedrosa has undergone surgery for the broken collarbone sustained in Friday practice for the Japanese MotoGP at Motegi.

The Repsol Honda star was fired from his RC213V in a Monster highside at the end of FP2 and immediately knew his collarbone was broken. X-rays later confirmed it was completely broken into four pieces, plus damage to the right fibula.

Pedrosa flew back to Barcelona, where surgery took place on Saturday evening.

Doctors Victor Marlet and Sergi Barrera, overseeing the procedure, explained: "Through the use of a CAT scan, it was confirmed that patient Dani Pedrosa had suffered a comminuted fracture consisting of four fragments, with significant shortening of the middle third of the right clavicle.

"The scan also detected a supcapital fracture of the right fibula with no displacement, only requiring immobilisation.

"A surgical operation was carried out on the right clavicle, involving its open reduction and fixation with a titanium plate. The result of the operation was satisfactory, and Dani Pedrosa will undergo an evaluation of his progress over the coming days."

The same right collarbone was previously broken in 2011, when a titanium plate was also needed.

Motegi is the worst event of the season to be injured at, being the first of three races in three weekends.
