McCoy's cousin gets MX ride.

Garry McCoy's MotoGP future may currently be in doubt, but things are looking promising for his 19-year-old cousin Daniel, who has just signed to ride a Yamaha in the 2004 Australian Supercross and Motocross championships.

Having finished third in this year's Australian SX championship and fourth in the MX series, McCoy is now targeting both 2004 titles for his new team.

"I am really looking forward to the 2004 season," said McCoy. "To be signed up by the CDR/Boost Mobile/Yamaha team is a dream come true for me. My goal is to learn as much as I can from my team-mates Troy Carroll, Cameron Taylor and Darryll King, with the ultimate aim of winning both Championships."

"Daniel is a fantastic young rider and will be a great asset to the team," added team principal Craig Dack.

Former GP winner Garry McCoy (pictured) began his own career off-road, in Speedway, before switching to road racing - and winning fans around the world with his spectacular sideways style, learnt during his early days on the dirt.

McCoy has left 2003 employer's Kawasaki, and his GP options for next season look limited to a return to the WCM outfit, with which he won 500cc races while operating as Red Bull Yamaha.
