Casey Stoner is currently in recovery having undergone the wrist surgery he needed to stabilise an injury sustained back in 2003.

Stoner struggled with the ailment in the latter stages of the 2008 season after aggravating the problem during falls in Brno and Misano.

However, while he resisted the need for surgery until after post-season testing at Valencia, Stoner has now been treated for pseudoarthrosis on his left scaphoid before the removal of a staple, which was inserted in Stoner's scaphoid during an operation in 2003, and a bone graft using the Herbert Bone Screw System.

The surgery, which took place in Modena, Italy, also saw two floating bodies removed from the area of the styloid process of the ulna bone (lower arm).

A Ducati press release stated: "Stoner wanted to give his personal thanks to the medical team and also to Ducati Corse's trusted consultant, Prof. Fabio Catani from the Rizzoli Hospital in Bologna, who has provided crucial advice and support over recent months, helping to set up the operation with the team led by Dr Antonio Landi."

The 2007 world champion has since been discharged and will begin his rehabilitation on his return home to Switzerland.
