Can Lorenzo win title with 'most complete' Ducati?

Jorge Lorenzo says the Ducati is now the ‘most complete’ package it has ever been after the Spaniard sealed back-to-back MotoGP victories with another win at Catalunya.

Jorge Lorenzo says the Ducati is now the ‘most complete’ package it has ever been after the Spaniard sealed back-to-back MotoGP victories with another win at Catalunya.

Lorenzo toasted success with the Italian manufacturer for the first time at Mugello and followed up in Spain with a pole position and dominant triumph over championship leader Marc Marquez, who will become his team-mate for 2019 in the Repsol Honda team.

The three-time premier class champion admits he has never felt as good on the Ducati since his move to the factory team and is refusing to rule out the possibility of a shock title challenge.

“With the Ducati, never (felt as good). Last year was not good but honestly also our bike now is competitive and I feel great,” Lorenzo said.

“Probably we have the best and most complete Ducati ever, that’s also a good sign, so let’s see. The good thing for us is that we don’t have pressure, we don’t have nothing to lose, and Marc has a little more pressure in that aspect.

“Bad news is that we are very far, the good news is that we still have a lot of races until the end. From Mugello it was almost impossible, now it’s possible even if it is very difficult, but we have our chance,” he added.

“This championship can change so much and I also can lose many points in a difficult race, Assen for example is a track that for the moment has been a lot of years that I did not get a very good result.”

Lorenzo opted for the soft Michelin tyre options and said that although they worked well throughout, he had to adapt accordingly as the race wore on.

“Yes, for our bike it works well but also I needed to save them very well and be very smooth with the throttle and changing quite a lot my riding, because I knew Marc was with different tyres and this could be an advantage.

“I think it was very similar, both packages, and finally we could keep more or less the same distance more or less throughout the race.

“In my opinion, Michelin made a great job because we found a lot of difficulties at the beginning but little by little they improved and now we are much more compensated form the rear tyre to the front. Still the front tyre for me needs to have a little bit more grip in the edge.”
