World champion Marc Marquez, riding his first MotoGP laps since fracturing his leg in February, snatched pole position from Alvaro Bautista on his final lap.

Bradley Smith secured the final place on the front row, his best ever MotoGP qualifying performance.

Practice leader Aleix Espargaro fell on only his second flying lap of qualifying, forcing him to rush back to the pits for his spare bike.... He returned but then fell again, while on course for pole!

Andrea Dovizioso, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa will start on the second row. Lorenzo's Factory Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi was left down in tenth place, albeit only 0.589s from pole.
