Ahead of the Hungarian WorldSBK, Sam Lowes has made clear his objectives, saying he needs to continue to “aim for my first victory” in the championship.

Lowes first joined World Superbike from Moto2 in 2024, enduring a tough rookie season. 2025 was much better, though, and he stood on the podium for the first time and took a first pole position in year two.

Year three has seen greater consistency from Lowes; despite a broken wrist in Australia he was fifth in all three races in Portugal, then third three times at Assen.

Heading to Hungary, Lowes is hopeful he can find the same kind of level that put him on the front row and on the podium twice at Balaton Park – a track he says suits him – in 2025.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Sam Lowes, speaking to WorldSBK.com ahead of the Hungarian Round.

“I was happy to make the step in Assen – back to full fitness and able to get back on the podium, which is very important for me and for the team.

“I actually really enjoyed this event last year; the track obviously really suited my style, suited Ducati, so I had two podiums last year.

“So, coming here with good memories, and good memories from Assen, so I’m hoping to keep that ball rolling and keep fighting for those positions.”

Lowes is now into the top-three in the championship after his recent run of results, but a first win continues to elude him. It’s this that he feels must continue to be his objective.

“I think every rider, obviously [the goal is] to be as high up in the classification as you can, top-three in the world is always a target for everybody,” he said.

“I think I can improve, I think I can do better, I’m looking to fight, get closer to Iker [Lecuona] and compete.

“I think obviously Bulega at the minute, also second half of last year, is on a different level, but we’ll keep trying to improve and be there.

“I need to to fight and aim for my first victory in World Superbike.”

If Lowes were to take victory this weekend at Balaton, he would be the first rider from an independent team to win a WorldSBK race since Andrea Iannone was victorious in Aragon in 2024. He’d also be the first rider other than Nicolo Bulega or Toprak Razgatlioglu to win in over a year, since Andrea Locatelli won Race 2 at Assen last year.
