Miguel Oliveira out of Hungarian WorldSBK after Superpole Race crash
Miguel Oliveira has been ruled out of the Hungarian WorldSBK after crashing in the Superpole Race.

A crash in the Superpole Race at the Hungarian WorldSBK has left Miguel Oliveira unfit for Race 2.
Oliveira was diagnosed with a concussion on Sunday morning at Balaton Park, as well as a left shoulder injury.
The ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK rider was battling for third place with Andrea Locatelli as the two entered turn five on the first lap of the 10-lap Superpole Race.
Both riders ran in deep, but Locatelli – who was on the outside – tried to cut underneath Oliveira. As he did so, he made contact with Sam Lowes, who has turned inside both of them as they ran wide.
The contact with Lowes caused Locatelli to fall, and his wayward motorcycle collected Oliveira who hit the ground hard.
Oliveira was treated on the track initially and then transported via ambulance to the circuit medical centre where he was diagnosed with a concussion and a left shoulder injury. He was declared unfit and transported from the circuit to Szekesfehervar hospital for further assessments.
The race was restarted over eight laps. Locatelli got a double long lap penalty for causing the incident with Oliveira and finished 13th.
At the front, Nicolo Bulega took his 11th win from 11 World Superbike races in 2026 and Iker Lecuona extended his run of second places to eight races. Ducati riders filled the top-six positions, with Bimota’s Alex Lowes the first non-Ducati rider in seventh, behind Alberto Surra.
Oliveira had been the lead non-Ducati rider in Race 1 on Saturday when he finished third, his fourth podium finish of the season. He has been in a battle with Alex Lowes for that first position behind the leading Ducatis in the championship since the Portuguese Round, entering Sunday in Hungary six points clear of Lowes, but after the Superpole Race that gap is cut to three points with more ground potentially to be lost in Race 2.
At the moment, though, focus will be on Oliveira’s recovery with three more rounds scheduled over the next six weeks starting with the Czech Round on 15–17 May.
