Kev Coghlan has been crowned the 2009 Spanish Supersport champion after wrapping up the title at the penultimate round of the season at Jerez.

The Briton, who raced five events for Holiday Gym Yamaha in the latter half of the 2009 World Supersport season, clinched the championship with a run to fourth position at Jerez, putting him out of reach of his rivals with one round remaining at Valencia.

The title was decided as early as the second lap when Ivan Moreno, the only rider capable of overhauling Coghlan, was forced to retire.

Riding a Joe Darcey Honda, Coghlan, who scored six points to finish 26th in the WSS standings, has won three Spanish Supersport races this year. Former SSP alumni includes World Superbike rider David Salom, Graeme Gowland and Joan Lascorz.
