Sykes was thrown from the bike and has been declared unfit after sustaining a dislocated fracture of his fifth finger on his left hand. The Huddersfield rider was transported to the medical centre for further checks but is expected to miss the remainder of the race weekend.

WorldSBK medical chief Monica Lazzarotti has confirmed Sykes will undergo surgery in Barcelona to fix the dislocated fracture.

"Tom Sykes has a dislocated fracture of the fifth finger on the left hand," Lazzarotti said. "He will have surgery in Barcelona which the team is managing as his next step in order to stabilise the fracture. We hope he will recover soon."
