Jonathan Rea has kept top spot on the combined free practice times following the second session despite a small crash, while Lorenzo Savadori jumped into the provisional Q2 spots.

The Kawasaki rider slipped off in a lowside crash at Turn 5 during his opening run in FP2 but quickly recovered to not lose any times in the session. Rea’s best effort of 1m 41.817s from the morning session remains the best lap of the day at the Portuguese track with the bulk of the riders focusing on long run pace with race one taking place at the same time on Saturday.

With the order remaining largely unchanged, Jordi Torres held on to second place on the combined times for MV Agusta while Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Marco Melandri jumped up to third place to push Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes down a spot into fourth.

Barni Ducati’s Xavi Fores remains inside the top 10 in fifth ahead of Michael van der Mark for Pata Yamaha with Eugene Laverty splitting the Dutch rider from his team-mate Alex Lowes in eighth place.

Milwaukee Aprilia’s Savadori was another FP2 improver to move up to ninth on the combined times, provisionally handing him an automatic Q2 place, to push Red Bull Honda’s Leon Camier on to the bubble in 10th with team-mate Jake Gagne dropping out in 11th.

Althea BMW’s Loris Baz and Aruba.it Racing Ducati duo Michael Ruben Rinadli and Chaz Davies all made small improvements but stayed outside the Q2 spots with Davies slipping behind his team-mate into 15th place. The Welsh rider is recovering from a collarbone fracture sustained less than three weeks ago while training at Aragon.
