Andrew Pitt is to become the latest world championship racer to switch to the MCE British Superbike Championship after penning a deal to join Motorpoint Yamaha for the upcoming Mallory Park round.

The experienced Australian is a double World Supersport Champion, but has also one victory to his name in the World Superbike Championship, while he has credits in MotoGP with the factory Kawasaki team.

Pitt began the year riding in the World Superbike Championship with burgeoning Reitwagen BMW outfit, but the Austrian team folded three rounds in leaving him on the sidelines.

He will take the place of Ian Lowry, who in turn had only joined the team as a replacement for the retired Neil Hodgson.

"I have been following the championship and I am looking forward to the new challenge of racing in BSB. It has been a tough season for me so far but I am hoping that this can be the turning point."

Pitt is the latest in a long line of Australian riders to sample racing in the British domestic series, while he follows in the footsteps of former world championship riders including Ryuichi Kiyonari and Josh Brookes.
