Laverty closes on Cup title with Oulton double.

John Laverty has extended his lead in the British Superbike Daily Star Cup after mixing it with the factory supported riders and scoring a double class victory at Oulton Park.

Having exerted a 'Byrne-like' grip on the standings so far this year, Laverty added wins seven and eight to his tally, a result that increases his advantage over Gary Mason to 135 points.

More than that though, Laverty afforded himself the chance to battle with the likes of team-mate Michael Rutter and his older brother Michael Laverty, a performance that helped him equal his best result of tenth in the first race.

Following that up with a 13th place finish in the second race, Laverty was thrilled to be fighting the Superbike-specification machines on his North West prepared stock Ducati.

"I'm really pleased with the results today, the Buildbase NW200 boys have worked really hard and it's nice to take the double win again in the Cup plus two good overall results," he said. "I felt happy all weekend with everything and the results just made it all worthwhile.

"It's sometimes tricky still being on a stock bike as the factory bikes obviously have the slight edge with speed and handling but the old girl did me proud today and I hope I'll be able to carry on with this form at Knockhill."
