Glenn Irwin has jumped to the front of the hotly-contested pack at the end of the final free practice session at Knockhill with a new lap record.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider set the marker to beat ahead of qualifying at the Scottish circuit using fresh tyres to produce a 47.347s to beat Danny Buchan’s Friday marker by one-tenths of a second on the recently resurfaced track.

Irwin held off a late attack from McAMS Yamaha’s Josh Brookes who stormed up to second having been struggling for outright single lap pace so far this weekend. The 2015 British Superbike champion missed out on beating Irwin by just 0.092s while half a second covered the top 13 riders.

Jake Dixon kept in touch at the front on the RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki in third just ahead of Danny Buchan who had topped Friday’s action for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki.

Richard Cooper continued his impressive start to the Knockhill round in fifth place for Buildbase Suzuki ahead of BSB championship leader Leon Haslam on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki who bounced back from an off at Turn 1 in FP2.

Bradley Ray didn’t produce a late flying lap which saw him end the session down in seventh on the Buildbase Suzuki as Andrew Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati), Luke Mossey (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) and Christian Iddon (Tyco BMW) rounded out the top 10.

A number of riders were shown the black and white warning flag during FP3 for track limits with riders using pit exit before going into Turn 1.
