Kartworld to stick with known quantity.

Jason Hughes has admitted that Super 2000 machinery isn't a realistic option for Team KWR as the focus turns to getting two MG ZSs on the grid for the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.

The 2008 campaign had been set to be the swansong for the ZS in the series, with Hughes announcing at the start of the year that he was to swap over to a Honda Integra for the 50th anniversary season of BTCC racing.

However, when a deal to purchase the car formerly raced by Dave Pinkney fell through, Hughes soldiered on the with the MG - taking a best finish of tenth at both Donington Park and on home soil at Oulton Park.

The Oulton Park weekend proved to be one of the strongest of the season for Hughes, who just missed out on qualifying inside the top ten, after 25 kilos was taken off the base weight of the BTC-spec cars and he admitted to Crash.net during that weekend that he hoped to expand to two cars for 2009.

With interest continuing to be shown, he will now look to field two of the MGs during the new season, admitting that S2000 machinery wouldn't be an option for a smaller team on the grid.

"We have some people who want to come onboard next year and join us in a two-car team and go from there," he said. "However, S2000 cars are out of the price range for a team like us unless you can pull in a big sponsor.

"We will stick to what we know. We have a lot of the MG bits and we know the car really well so we can run that for another year or two. If Judd can come up with a few engine modifications, we know that the car is competitive - especially if we can get more weight off the car as we know we are still 25 kilos too heavy."
