Brazil's Luiz Razia could be dropped by Marussia after it emerged that financial issues were the reason he sat out the second F1 2013 pre-season test last week at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.

Razia had originally been due to share track time with team-mate and fellow F1 rookie, Max Chilton, however, in the end the Britain ran on all four days.

The Banbury-based outfit reported the test programme had been 'restructured' as Chilton was unable to progress to performance runs on day two. Chilton spent much of Wednesday working on practice starts and systems checks, meaning he was unable to focus on improving his lap-times aside from one quick run late in the day [see separate story - here]. However Razia has revealed that the actual story is a bit different...

"In the contract there are parties [sponsors] with responsibilities," Razia told Brazilian newspaper, Folha de S.Paulo. "We trust them but we have some conflicts."

Asked if this was why he didn't test, Razia replied: "Exactly. But do not think that is it. We did the right things - just that this is out of [our] control. We will solve [it]. [We] need only a few days."

The final F1 2013 pre-season test gets underway later this week, running from Thursday February 28 to Sunday March 3.
