Moto2: Binder: 'We can battle for title'
Brad Binder may be only eighth in the Moto2 world championship and 52 points off the title lead, but the KTM rider feels he is still in the world championship fight.
The South African has already cut the deficit to the top of the standings by 15 points in the last two rounds, courtesy of runner-up finishes in Assen and Sachsenring (from 17th on the grid), as the KTM chassis finally became competitive with the Triumph engine.
It’s still work in progress, but bigger technical developments are expected from the Austrian factory for the next event in Brno and the newly-announced 2020 Tech3 MotoGP rider is ready to 'get involved' in the championship chase.
"I don’t think the fight for the championship is over yet, so if we continue working in the same way and things progress as we hope and have planned for, we can get involved in the battle for the title," Binder said.
"My first half of the year was difficult because we faced some challenges. However, little-by-little things are slotting into place. I’m happy with the last few results we achieved, getting the two consecutive podiums in Holland and Germany.
"The most important thing now is to fix the chattering problem that’s been dragging along for a few races. I think if we can improve on that and get a more stable feeling from the beginning to the end of races, we’ll be better prepared to fight for the victory and be up there on a regular basis."
Alex Marquez (Marc VDS Kalex) currently leads the Moto2 standings by eight points from Thomas Luthi (Intact GP Kalex).
