It was a wet start to the first Indonesian motorcycle grand prix since 1997, with Alberto Surra leading Moto3 opening practice on a slowly drying surface at the new Mandalika track.
All of the Moto3 bikes and riders were visibly muddy, with some even appearing to struggle for visibility through their visors and screens, indicating that track cleaning efforts following the dirty MotoGP test have only been partially successful.
More track cleaning took place before the start of the opening Moto2 session.
Unlike MotoGP, Friday marks the first Mandalika laps for the Moto3 and Moto2 classes.
