Andrea Dovizioso won a charity motocross event organised by seven time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi, at Cavallara in Italy on Sunday.

Cheered on by 10,000 fans grand prix stars Rossi, Dovizioso, Marco Simoncelli, Mattia Pasini, Marco Melandri, Loris Capirossi, Julian Simon and MotoGP legend Kevin Schwantz were among a healthy rider line-up tackling the fast hillside circuit, which offered a full range of challenges - including some large jumps.

Simon, Dovizioso and Melandri had finished in the top three places during the first two heats, but Dovizioso won the final heat and in doing so took the overall. Rossi finished sixth, fourth and second.

"This was important because it was a charity event for children. We are thrilled by the response, and it is exciting to see all these people here in Cavallara. It's also nice to compete with the other riders!" the official MotoGP website reports Rossi as saying. "I thank all the riders who wanted to come. I think it was a good show and we've been fortunate this year because it didn't rain, so we've all thoroughly enjoyed it."

Money raised will be donated to a children's hospital based in Pesaro which helps leukaemia sufferers.

Rossi meanwhile revealed that his next race action will be on four-wheels, driving a Ford WRC car at the forthcoming Monza Rally and then the Bologna Motorshow.

The Italian is also rumoured to be driving a Ferrari road car, along with friend and helper Alessio 'Uccio' Salucci, in a six hour endurance race at Vallelunga this weekend.

Rossi has to wait until February before he can test his Yamaha MotoGP machine again.
