Vinales leads damaged Marquez in FP3

Maverick Vinales put Yamaha on top of the timesheets with a new Le Mans lap record of 1m 31.619s during Saturday morning's FP3 session.

At one stage M1 riders were filling the top three places courtesy of Vinales, Valentino Rossi and Monster Yamaha Tech3's Johann Zarco.

But Marc Marquez ultimately split the inline four-cylinder machines, despite riding with a damaged Repsol Honda in the form of a missing wing from his fairing – and a hole in the elbow of his leathers - after remounting following a low-side fall.

Marquez was 0.155s slower than Vinales, with Rossi and home star Zarco all within 0.247s of the top.

Jorge Lorenzo improved from tenth on Friday to fifth this morning to lead the Ducati challenge, albeit with Pramac's Jack Miller just 0.083s behind on the GP17.

Miller and team-mate Danilo Petrucci are the favourites to take over from Lorenzo should the Spaniard leave. But Petrucci (12th) - like Cal Crutchlow (11th) and Dani Pedrosa (16th) - were left outside the top ten this morning and will need to take part in Qualifying 1.

Completing the top ten this morning behind Miller were Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia), Tito Rabat (Avintia Ducati), Andrea Iannone (Suzuki) and Crutchlow (LCR Honda). However Friday pace setter Andrea Dovizioso (15th) remained fifth overall, despite not improving this morning, bumping Crutchlow out of the combined top ten

The sunny but cool conditions again caught out many riders - fortunately without injury - including Marquez, Pedrosa, Thomas Luthi, Bradley Smith, Pol Espargaro and Xavier Simeon.
