The session was damp. Josh Hayes used slick tyres to set the best time on his tenth and final lap.

The tribute to Marco Simoncelli will now take place (starts 10.10) and is to be broadcast free on motogp.com.

Colin Edwards, injured in Marco Simoncelli's fatal accident at Sepang, has been replaced by reigning AMA Superbike champion Hayes. Injured 2010 world champion Jorge Lorenzo is again being replaced by Yamaha test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga. Loris Capirossi is riding with Simoncelli's #58.
