Local wild-cards set for inaugural Istanbul appearance

The inaugural World Superbike Championship event to be held at the Istanbul Park Circuit in Turkey is set to feature a bolstered grid following the addition of two local riders.

Regulars of the domestic motorcycling series in Turkey, Tolga Urpak and Yunus Ercelik are listed on the provisional entry list for the 11th round of the World Superbike Championship.

Upping the grid numbers to 20 riders for the Turkish event, Urpak will line up on a Ducati 1098R under the CMS Racing Team banner, while Ercelik will ride a Sampiyon 169 Racing BMW S1000RR.

Along with local hero Kenan Sofuoglu, the World Supersport grid will see four wild-cards riding alongside the three-time champion in the shape of Turks Baris Tok, Mert Aytug, and Cagri Coscun, plus Greek racer Theodosios Sinioris.

Meanwhile, no replacement has been announced for the injured Jonathan Rea at PATA Honda. Leon Camier and Loris Baz, who also crashed heavily last time out at the Nurburgring, are expected to race in Turkey.
