Championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu finished day one at WorldSBK Jerez third behind title rival Jonathan Rea and race two winner in Catalunya Michael Rinaldi.

Razgatlioglu, who leads the way by just one point with three rounds to go, started the day fastest in FP1.

However, the 24 year-old was the lone rider inside the top eight not to go faster during this afternoon’s running as a result of ‘too much spinning’.

Razgatlioglu said: "Not a bad start and also a different feeling with the grip because we had two new tyres that we tried.

"Not a bad session this afternoon and we tried to find a good setup for the race, but I’m not really happy.

"I tried for a fast lap time but it was not coming because we had too much spinning. The most important is the race and we are always working for the race.

"Tomorrow I think we will be feeling much better because we will try another setup. We will see tomorrow."

Along with the regular SC0 and SCX AO557 tyres, Pirelli has introduced a new SC1 A0721 and A0674 front tyre development option for this weekend, while the AO415 SCX rear is also new.

Razgatlioglu tried several combinations but is currently unsure of his choice for tomorrow’s opening race based on the ‘big difference’ he feels.

"I tried a new one but it was very similar to the SC0. I think the AO557 is better but it was not hot today," added Razgatlioglu.

"We are working on the SC0 tyre with a different setup, but then with a different tyre we use another setup, because I ride the bike and feel a big difference. Every tyre I feel different with."
