Garrett Gerloff has taken top spot in a WorldSBK session for the first time this season after bettering pole sitter Scott Redding late on in warm-up at San Juan.

It was Toprak Razgatlioglu who led the way following every rider’s opening lap, while Jonathan Rea and Redding sat second and third.

Redding, who starts on pole for today’s Superpole race, then went quickest with a 1m 38s flat - two tenths better than Razgatlioglu’s second effort. There was an early crash for Orelac Kawasaki rider Isaac Vinales at turn 13.

Razgatlioglu then bettered Redding’s top time by just - 0.019s with six minutes to go, while Alex Lowes moved ahead of team-mate Rea for third.

Razgatlioglu’s fourth lap saw him break the 1m 38s barrier to move two tenths clear of Redding.

However, the Ducati rider quickly responded by going another tenth and a half quicker than Razgatlioglu.

Rea managed to split Redding and Razgatlioglu late on, before a brilliant effort by Gerloff saw him go fastest overall.
