Scott Redding has seen off a late attack from Be Wiser Ducati team-mate Josh Brookes to tighten his grip on the Bennetts British Superbike championship title thanks to his double win at Donington Park.

After dominating to victory in the opener, Redding was never completely comfortable in Race 2 after breaking into the lead on Lap 7 when Brookes ran wide at Redgate at a Safety Car restart after being in front for the early laps.

Redding pulled out a two-second advantage with five laps to go but the 2015 BSB slashed the gap to four-tenths of a second at the start of the final lap.

But the ex-MotoGP kept clear of Brookes to claim his 11th victory of the season to extend his BSB championship lead to 28 points heading into the triple-header BSB finale at Brands Hatch.

Brookes will look to strike back at the last round having taken a double victory at the Kent track earlier this season.

Tommy Bridewell saw his BSB title hopes effectively over in third place as the Oxford Racing Ducati now trails Redding by 65 points with a maximum of 75 points left to score.

Danny Buchan’s BSB title bid is over after finishing Race 2 in fourth place for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki ahead of Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon and Buildbase Suzuki’s Bradley Ray, with the latter charging from 19th on the grid due to his technical retirement in the opening race.

Andrew Irwin claimed seventh place for Honda directly ahead of team-mate Xavi Fores with the Spanish rider leading the Northern Irishman by five points in the fight for the BSB Riders’ Cup.

Tarran Mackenzie faded late on to ninth place in McAMS Yamaha to also see his BSB title charge end, with final Showdown contender Peter Hickman suffering a broken chain with his Smiths Racing BMW.
