Former Independents champion James Kaye is to make a surprise return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship for the final two rounds of the 2010 season.

Kaye won the Independents' crown all the way back in 1992 and 1994 while driving a Toyota but then switched to racing Hondas - which he campaigned through to his final season in the BTCC back in 2006.

That season saw Kaye secure his only BTCC podium with a fine drive to third place at Oulton Park in a Synchro Motorsport-run Honda Civic.

Kaye's entry at Donington Park and Brands Hatch with a BTC-spec Honda Integra will run under the WRC Devlopments with Barwell banner, with Barwell having been the team that carried him to the now-defunct Production Class title back in 2002.

With Martin Johnson and Lea Wood set to return to the grid for the penultimate round of the year having missed the trip to Knockhill, a total of five of the older BTC-spec cars are now set to compete at Donington this weekend.
