Tom Chilton will be forced to sit out the Silverstone round of the British Touring Car Championship for Power Maxed Racing after undergoing ‘a routine operation’.

Chilton, who is making his return to BTCC this year in a dual campaign in WTCC for Sebastien Loeb Racing Citroen, will miss the penultimate round of the season on medical orders after undergoing surgery which requires a sustained recovery period.

As a result, Chilton will skip the Silverstone round (16-17 September) before returning to action for the 2017 finale at Brands Hatch (30 September-1 October).

“It’s such a shame to miss the next races, but I have to follow the doctor’s orders,” said Chilton. “I’m gutted to miss Silverstone particularly as it’s one of my favourite tracks, but I will be back for Brands.”

Power Maxed Racing has confirmed a replacement for Chilton will be announced in the coming days for Silverstone to ensure it retains its two Vauxhall Astra line-up.
