MG withdraws appeal, Cook to sit out race one

Josh Cook will not take part in today's opening British Touring Car Championship race at Silverstone after Triple Eight Racing MG withdraw their appeal.

Cook was initially handed a one-race ban after receiving a fourth penalty strike during the third race at Rockingham.

MG appealed the decision but the stewards elected to uphold Cook's race ban after a hearing was held at Silverstone on Friday. However, the Triple Eight outfit took the matter further by stating their intention to take the appeal to the MSA National Court.

That initially meant Cook was cleared to take part in the remaining six-races of 2017 under appeal, meaning his results - and ultimately the championship classification - would remain provisional until a decision had been made.

However, MG have since backtracked and have rescinded their appeal, relegating Cook to the sidelines for race one.
